The Nathan Yip School of Hope

School in Tai Ping Mountain, Tian Tang Village, Yi Zhang Region,
Hu Nan Province, China

The Yi Zhang Region in China has a population of 500,000. Tian Tang Village is located in a mountainous area where farmland and water are scarce. Due to its backward social and economic development, the old school was built in 1975 with poor construction and materials. With over 30 years of no repair, the school has become a danger to both students and teachers.

The Nathan Yip Foundation provided funds in the building of a new school with roughly 5000 SF of classroom space, complete with a basketball court. The new school can accommodate over 400 students. Currently it has over 100 students with 3 teachers.

Before the new school was built only elementary students could receive their education in their own village. Middle and high school students had to walk 6 kilometers to attend school in another village.
